A pedestrian was shot after he refused a robber's demands to hand over his valuables in Lakeview early Sunday morning, Nassau County police said.

Police said the victim was walking on Pinebrook Avenue near Pinebrook Court about 12:15 a.m. when a man came up to him and demanded property.

When the victim refused, the suspect shot him, hitting him in the left hand and bicep, before running away, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was admitted for treatment, police said.

The suspect, who did not get anything from the attempted robbery, was described as 5-foot-8 and about 200 pounds, police said.

Police said anyone with information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
