Third Squad detectives have arrested a father and son after they barricaded themselves in a woman's Hempstead apartment Tuesday, threatening police and the woman, Nassau County police said.

Calvin Ellis, 53, who police said has "no known address" and Kelvin Ellis, 25, of Raleigh, N.C., apparently barricaded themselves in a woman's apartment on Vermont Avenue at about 1:45 a.m., police said.

On April 29, the victim had reported that Calvin Ellis choked her after she told police she heard a noise outside her apartment. She said she opened her door at around 11 p.m. and found the elder Ellis outside.

When she questioned him, he allegedly became agitated, attacked her, then ran away. The woman had contusions to her neck but refused medical attention, police said.

On Tuesday morning, the woman contacted police again, telling them the elder Ellis and his son were threatening her. When police arrived, "the elder Ellis gave a false name, became combative and threatened them with a metal pipe," according to a news release.

Then, with help from his son, the men barricaded themselves, the release said. Police said after officers were able to gain entry, the two men ignored "all commands and refused to be handcuffed."

Police eventually arrested both men, the release said.

Calvin Ellis is charged with burglary, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing a police officer, obstruction, assault, resisting arrest and false impersonation, police said.

Kelvin Ellis is charged with burglary, obstruction and resisting arrest, police said.

Each is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
