Police: Man spots robbery suspect on street
A man was at the right place and right time Monday, police said. That's when the victim of a street robbery in Hempstead last month happened to be walking near the Hempstead Police Department headquarters when he spotted one of the two men he said robbed him -- and ran inside to tell officers the robber was out on the street.
Officers pursued the teen and arrested him on nearby Morrell Street, police said Tuesday. The suspect was identified as Deandre Moore, 17, of Willet Place in Roosevelt.
Police said Moore and Denzel Moore, 19, of West Columbia Street, Hempstead, robbed the victim, 22, of cash and a cellphone at gunpoint as he walked along Burrell Avenue at 4:50 p.m. on Aug. 30. The two suspects are not related. Denzel Moore was arrested Sept. 6, police said, and charged with first-degree robbery. Deandre Moore also was charged with first-degree robbery.
