Two acquaintances are in a car. They start to argue.

One allegedly pulls out a knife and stabs the other. Repeatedly.

That's what Nassau County police said happened during a bizarre late-night incident Tuesday in Elmont that left one man hospitalized and the other sought in the attack.

Police said the men, neither of whom has been identified, were traveling in a 2010 Hyundai when an argument broke out. "The suspect pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the victim numerous times in the face, chest and stomach," police said in a statement.

The victim got out of the car at the intersection of Atherton Avenue and Rockmart Avenue, where the suspect continued to stab him, police said.

The suspect then fled.

The victim was taken to Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola. His condition is unknown.

Police said they are still searching for the suspect.
