A 33-year-old man was arrested Sunday and charged with grand larceny after stealing a gold cross and chain from a church in Inwood, Nassau County police said.

Police said David Campbell of Inwood stole the artifact from a religious statue at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Inwood on Friday.

On Sunday, police said a witness called them to report Campbell was wearing the cross and chain and officers conducted an investigation, then arrested Campbell.

Campbell is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
