An Elmont man stole cable from an MTA lot in East Garden City early Saturday, Nassau police said.

Police said at about 4:30 a.m., a sergeant saw Bernard Jenkins, 55, of 2 Elmont Road, walking near Quentin Roosevelt Boulevard carrying a rolled-up coaxial type of cable.

Jenkins dropped the cable and ran, but was stopped after a brief foot pursuit, police said. Police found the defendant had used a hacksaw to remove the cable from a nearby MTA lot, they said.

Jenkins was arrested and charged with third-degree grand larceny, possession of burglary tools and third-degree criminal trespass. He was also charged with an open warrant for a vehicle and traffic law violation.
