A man armed with a handgun walked into a Mobil gas station on Merrick Road in Merrick Monday and robbed the place of cash and Newport cigarettes, police said.

The man then fled on foot.

Nassau County police said the robbery was reported at 7:20 a.m. It was not clear how much money - or how many packs of Newports - were taken. The man fled onto Beach Drive, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
