Police: Nassau cop accidentally shot self
A Nassau County police officer in Oceanside accidentally shot himself in the leg Friday evening, police said.
The incident occurred near Waterview and River avenues about 5:40 p.m., police said.
The officer, whom police did not identify, was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of a nonlife threatening wound, police said.
It was unclear whether the officer was on- or off-duty.
No other information was immediately made available concerning the circumstances of the shooting.
