Police: Nassau cop hurt during 911 call
A Nassau County police officer responding to a domestic dispute in East Meadow on Thursday evening suffered a leg injury that required treatment at a hospital, police said.
The identity of the officer was not released. Police said the injury was not serious.
No one else was injured in the incident, which police said occurred at about 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Merrick Avenue and Kalda Lane.
Dayquan Holmes, 20, of Taylor Avenue, East Meadow, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, third-degree menacing and resisting arrest, police said. He is scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said First Precinct officers, responding to a 911 call, found Holmes "with his hands around the neck" of an 18-year-old woman. When the officers attempted to stop Holmes -- and arrest him -- they said he "became combative" with them, "refusing their commands and flailing his arms."
Police said that, during the ensuing struggle with Holmes, the officer was injured.
Additional details were not immediately available.
