Police: New Hyde Park boutique owner in $38G fraud
A New Hyde Park boutique owner was arrested Tuesday night for defrauding a merchant processing company of more than $38,000, Nassau County police said.
Carita Csompo, 32, of Roslyn Heights had entered into a contractual agreement with Elavon, a credit-card processing company, for $2,000 a month in credit card sales at her business, Csompo Boutique, police said.
Beginning in February, police said, Csompo Boutique's credit-card sales exceeded $36,000 but Elavon received multiple complaints of fraud from banks issuing credit cards.
An investigation revealed 16 unauthorized credit-card transactions, causing Elavon to sustain a loss of $38,513.42, police said.
Csompo is charged with grand larceny and is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
