Old Northern Blvd. reopens after garbage truck flips, cops say

The eastbound side of Old Northern Boulevard in Roslyn reopened Wednesday night after being closed for several hours due to a garbage truck overturning and spilling refuse. The westbound side was reopened earlier.
There were no injuries, Nassau County police said.
Police said the truck flipped about 11 a.m. on Old Northern Boulevard at East Shore Road.
The entire boulevard was closed from Shore Road to Tatterson Street, but only the eastbound side remained closed, police said. Police put out a statement just before 11 p.m. Wednesday that it had reopened.
“The driver was alone and there were no other vehicles or anyone involved,” a police spokeswoman said.
Carole Trottere, a spokeswoman for the Town of North Hempstead, said the truck was leaving the town’s transfer station on West Shore Road and was on its way to an upstate landfill when the garbage spill occurred.
