A Great Neck man was arrested Monday in the theft of jewelry from a home he painted in May, Nassau County police said.

Police said Jorge Castro, 44, of 37 Cumberland Ave., was arrested and charged with third-degree grand larceny.

He is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said Castro stole three pieces of jewelry May 19 from a jewelry box in a bedroom of the home on Ira Road in Syosset.

They said Castro returned two of the pieces after being confronted by the homeowner -- but didn't return the third.

It was not immediately clear when the theft was reported.

The value of the missing item also was not known.
