Police: Pair attack man in Inwood

An Inwood man and his neighbor are under arrest, charged with robbery, after a confrontation with a third man Monday night over a landscaping job two of the men were working on, police said.

Jose Gomez, 44, of Clinton Avenue, and his neighbor, Nathan Thomas, 28, were each charged with two counts of second-degree robbery after Nassau County police said they took $1,100 from the pocket of the 36-year-old victim.

Gomez also was charged with fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon.

Police said the incident began when the victim went to see Gomez at his home to discuss a landscaping job the men were working on. An argument ensued, police said, and Gomez punched the victim in the eye.

Police said Gomez then removed "a landscaping tool" from his belt -- and "began slashing at the victim's stomach and threw him to the ground."

During the assault, police said the neighbor, Thomas, came to help Gomez and held the victim on the ground while Gomez removed the cash from the victim's pocket.

The victim later called police.

Police said the man suffered "swelling and blurriness" to his right eye, as well as cuts to his stomach and left forearm.

He did not request medical attention, police said.

Gomez and Thomas are both scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
