A woman lost control of her vehicle Friday evening while exiting a CVS parking lot in West Hempstead, striking two cars and a tree, and fatally injuring her male passenger, Nassau County police said.

The 81-year-old driver of the vehicle, a 2003 Acura, was admitted to a hospital in serious condition with head and neck injuries. No criminality is suspected, police said.

The accident occurred at 5:15 p.m. as the driver, whom police declined to identify, exited the parking lot of the CVS at 814 Hempstead Ave. and traveled onto Eagle Avenue.

While heading west on Eagle Avenue, police said she lost control of the vehicle, which then mounted the curb and traveled back into the parking lot, striking two parked cars. The Acura continued out of control across Hempstead Avenue, where it finally stopped after smashing into a tree, police said.

The passenger, Henry Gugumuck, 87, of Malverne was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police declined to identify the relationship between Gugumuck and the driver.

The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks.
