A 54-year-old man was killed Sunday morning when an out-of-control car struck him on a sidewalk in Great Neck, Nassau County police said.

Adrian Vasquez, of Great Neck, was walking east on Old Mill Road near Middle Neck Road when he was struck. Police said a 71-year-old man driving west lost control of his 2010 Lexus and drove onto the curb and sidewalk, where he hit a street-sign pole and Vasquez about 9:35 a.m.

Vasquez was taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 10 a.m.

Police did not release the driver's name because no criminal charges have been filed, authorities said. An investigation is continuing.

The Lexus was impounded for a brake and safety inspection.
