Police are investigating "a very serious" auto accident that occurred early Wednesday morning in Freeport.

At least one person was injured in the crash, which occurred at the intersection of North Main Street and Grand Avenue at about 12:30 a.m.

Nassau County police, Freeport Village police and volunteers from the Freeport Fire Department responded to the scene.

Police said details were still emerging, but photographs from the accident scene showed a mangled black Honda Accord with heavy damage to the right side and roof.
