A 45-year-old Queens man faces assault charges after he attacked two plainclothes officers who approached him while he was drinking a beer in an Inwood parking lot, police said Tuesday.

The officers approached Samuel Prioleau, 45, of Jamaica, at 8:35 p.m. Monday in the lot at 385 Bayview Ave. "as he was drinking a beer in public view," Nassau police said in a news release.

"When the officers identified themselves and asked the defendant for his identification, he became combative, punching the officers about the face and head," causing cuts and scrapes to the officers and "blunt trauma injury" to one officer's eye, police said.

A third officer injured his left arm while arresting the suspect, police said. The officers were taken to a local hospital where they were treated and released.

Prioleau, of 146-06 Farmers Blvd., was charged with three counts of second-degree assault, resisting arrest and consumption of alcohol, police said.

He was to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court, Hempstead.
