Police: Queens man sped at 97 mph on LIE
Reckless driving and reckless endangerment are among the charges a Queens man faces in Nassau County, where police said he was driving faster than 97 mph on the Long Island Expressway.
Michael Contreras, 27, of Jamaica, Queens, was arrested a little after 3 a.m. Sunday, after a Nassau police highway patrol officer clocked him going faster than 97 mph, according to a Nassau police report.
Contreras was traveling west on the LIE in his 1998 Honda Accord, police said. At one point, the report said, he stopped the car in the center lane briefly, leading other motorists to change lanes "to avoid hitting his car."
Police said he was pulled over near Old Westbury, and a breath test found Contreras had a 0.12 percent blood-alcohol level -- higher than the state's legal limit of 0.08 percent. He also had a forged inspection sticker on his car, police said.
Contreras was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree possession of a forged instrument, reckless driving, driving while impaired, fictitious inspection sticker, and several vehicle and traffic violations, police said.
