Police are investigating an alleged rape that occurred at the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Long Beach police spokesman Sgt. Eric Cregeen confirmed the investigation, saying detectives had executed a search warrant at the hotel on the boardwalk on West Broadway. He said investigators also had conducted "extensive interviews with staff and patrons" of the hotel.

Police did not identify the woman because she may be the victim of a sexual assault.

"We're told this is an isolated incident with out-of-town guests, and police are vigorously investigating," said city manager Jack Schnirman, who declined to comment further.

Police have not released any details of the alleged assault or confirmed what type of evidence was gathered from the scene, citing the continuing investigation. "I can tell you the Allegria has been extremely cooperative with the investigation," Cregeen said.

Allegria's general manager, Mike Witte, told Newsday that the alleged rape involved a woman who was not a registered guest at the hotel.

He said the woman had attended a "rooftop event" where a live band performed. The woman said the alleged assault occurred in a guest room, and Witte said hotel security had provided police with surveillance video that includes coverage of guest hallways at the hotel.

Witte said he lives on site and learned of the alleged assault not long after it was reported.

The registered occupant of the guest room where the alleged attack took place was not immediately clear. Police and the hotel said they could not provide certain information because of the investigation.
