It is a gold-plated sterling silver chalice with a crystal node, a platinum cross and a has a female wedding band attached.
It bears an inscription: James P Kelly, June 6, 1962 -- Dear Jimmie Love Mom and Dad.
Police on Tuesday released a sketch of the chalice, which was last seen on Sept. 22 at 9 a.m. Nassau County police believe that between then and Sept. 28, that chalice was stolen from St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre, the home church of Bishop William Murphy, head of the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
The chalice, used to hold sacramental wine during Holy Communion, was taken from a rear closet of the cathedral, police said.
In reply to email requests for comment, Sean Dolan, a spokesman for the diocese, has said there is no further information available regarding the chalice.
Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the missing chalice to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
