Police: Rocky Point man arrested on drug, weapons charges in Merrick

A Rocky Point man who pulled his blue Mazda to the shoulder of the Meadowbrook Parkway in Merrick Monday night was arrested on drug and weapon charges, State Police said.
A trooper patrolling the northbound side of the Meadowbrook noticed the car on the shoulder near Exit 7, Babylon Turnpike, at 6:10 p.m., police said.
While talking to the driver, Christopher Kennedy, 21, of 128 Kings Rd., the trooper noticed a black, collapsible baton near the center front console and the front passenger seat, police said in a release.
Kennedy also had an unlabeled prescription bottle with 33 OxyContin pills in his pocket, police said.
Kennedy is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon, police said. Arraignment information at First District Court in Hempstead was not immediately available.
