Police: Roosevelt man arrested after fight leaves another paralyzed

A Roosevelt man faces assault charges after throwing down another man, causing his victim to suffer an injury that paralyzed him, Nassau County police said Tuesday.

Robert Day, 24, of 128 E. Roosevelt Ave., has had an ongoing dispute with the victim, 34, who police said injured his spinal cord, paralyzing him from the neck down, according to a news release.

Detectives said Day and the other man were arguing at about 7:12 p.m. Monday at an intersection in Roosevelt when their dispute escalated into a physical confrontation.

Day grabbed the man "around the neck and threw him to the ground," the release said.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and Day was arrested at the scene without incident.

He is charged with first- and second-degree assault and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
