A call to the Dashing Dan Cab Company ended up with a cabdriver being robbed at gunpoint by four men on a Hempstead Street early Thursday, Nassau County police said.

The robbery took place at 1:27 a.m. on Grove Street.

Police said the driver, who was not identified, was dispatched to Grove Street and, on arrival, was immediately set on by the robbers. Police said the four opened the front doors of the taxi, took the keys - and removed the two-way radio.

They pulled the driver from the cab, pushed him to the ground and pointed a double-barrel shotgun at him, police said. They then stole cash and a cell phone from the driver, police said. They fled in a red sport utility vehicle - north on Franklin Avenue.

Police said the driver was not injured in the attack.

They are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.

All calls will remain confidential, police said.
