A Freeport man was arrested on charges of selling crack cocaine Thursday in the parking lot of the Merrick Burger King where he worked, Nassau County police's narcotics/vice squad said.

Michael Grandberry, 41, of 86 Oak St., sold crack cocaine to a man in the lot at about 6:35 p.m., police said. Grandberry was working at the Burger King at 1727 Merrick Rd. at the time, police said.

A short time later, Grandberry got into a vehicle with another man. When police stopped the vehicle on Merrick Road, they said the driver, Memphis Hightower, 42, of 411 Liberty Park Ave., Freeport, had crack cocaine and a crack stem, used for smoking crack.

Grandberry is charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance. He was scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Hightower is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was released on an appearance ticket and is due in court on Aug. 9.
