A Freeport man who was punched, kicked and stabbed by two men Sunday night died of his injuries Thursday, Nassau County police said.

Police said Ismael Martinez, 27, died at 5:33 p.m. - and that police are now investigating the case as a homicide.

Martinez was attacked on Broadway Sunday at 9:40 p.m. One of the attackers punched and kicked Martinez, police said. The other then stabbed him in the chest with a kitchen knife. Martinez was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in critical condition, but never recovered.

The two men fled.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
