Police: Shoplifting suspect kicked cop
An unruly shoplifter who allegedly kicked a police officer in the groin as she was being arrested Friday in Valley Stream faces charges of assault and resisting arrest, Nassau County police said.
Fifth Precinct police responded to the Best Buy at 6 W. Circle Dr. at about 7:08 p.m. on a shoplifting arrest, according to a news release.
As she was being arrested, Monika Wnorowska, 17, of 3702 Neptune Ave., Brooklyn, resisted by "flailing her arms and legs," police said. After finally being placed in handcuffs, Wnorowska kicked one of the arresting officers in the groin area, causing substantial pain, and spraining his right thumb, the release said.
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released, police said.
Wnorowska is charged with assault, resisting arrest and petty larceny, police said. She is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
