Police: Stabbing suspect charged with murder

A 24-year-old homeless man has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges after police said he stabbed a man to death during a fight Saturday in Freeport.
Henry Martinez-Ramos, 24, was held without bail, prosecutors said.
He is being represented by the Nassau County Legal Aid Society, which does not comment on individual cases.
He is due back in court Wednesday.
Prosecutors said Martinez-Ramos stabbed Ermis Alonzo, of Freeport, several times in the head and neck, killing him.
At about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Freeport police responded to a call reporting "a large amount of blood" on Bennington Avenue, a dead-end street between the Long Island Rail Road tracks and Sunrise Highway that borders a secluded wooded area. Nassau County police said the knife used in the attack was found during the arrest.
Officers said there was "a blood trail and drag marks" into the wooded area, where they found Alonzo's body.
They said Martinez-Ramos was nearby, and arrested him after an investigation.
Police did not release details of the incident, and it was not clear if the men knew each other.
