Police: Stolen computer tracked thief
An upstairs tenant who twice illegally entered the downstairs apartment where he lived in Massapequa and stole two laptop computers didn't know that a theft-recovery system was installed on one of those computers, leading police straight to him, police said.
Oscar Mejia, 31, was arrested Monday at 2:45 p.m. and charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property involving the home on Emily Street.
Police said the thefts of the two Dell computers took place on July 10 at about 3 a.m. and Aug. 6 at about 10:30 p.m.
Mejia is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
