Police: Substitute teacher had 'sexual relationship' with student
A 23-year-old female substitute teacher in the Freeport School District was arrested early Friday morning, charged with carrying on "a sexual relationship" with a 15-year-old female student, Nassau County police said.
Kaitlin Grant, of 787 Caroline Ave., Elmont, was arrested at her home at 2:17 a.m., police said. She has been charged with three counts of third-degree criminal sexual act and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She is scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
The identity of the female student is being withheld because she is a minor -- and because she is the victim of a sex crime, police said.
Police said the arrest followed a complaint being filed Thursday by the student's family, who they said had discovered nonsexual photographs of the victim and teacher -- and then questioned their daughter, who revealed the relationship. Police said the relationship is believed to have begun in November.
School district officials were not immediately available for comment Friday.
