A man whom a homeowner told police he saw "rummaging around" in his car early Wednesday morning in New Hyde Park was eventually arrested in Williston Park -- after a chase involving the homeowner, police officers, an aviation unit and a canine unit.

The identity of the suspect has not been released. Nassau County police said charges are pending.

Police said the incident began shortly before 4 a.m. when the homeowner saw a man inside his car on Seventh Avenue in New Hyde Park. Police said the homeowner shouted at the suspect, who then ran to a nearby BMW -- and fled the scene.

The homeowner jumped into his own car, police said.

He chased the suspect, calling 911 during the pursuit to provide details to police.

Police said the homeowner -- and officers -- located the BMW in Williston Park, where an aviation unit and canine search unit became involved in tracking the suspect. The suspect was located on Cushing Avenue, where police arrested him.

It was not clear if other suspects were being sought.

Police said the investigation is continuing and additional details were not available.
