A 15-year-old boy was robbed Wednesday afternoon on a street in Freeport by three assailants who took his cellphone and fled, police said.

Nassau County police said the incident occurred at about 3 p.m. near the intersection of Rutland Road and Remson Avenue. The victim, who was not identified, was grabbed from behind by one assailant, police said. The two other assailants soon joined in -- rifling the victim's pockets and taking his iPhone before fleeing.

Police said the trio fled on foot, going east on Remson and south on Frederick Avenue.

The victim was not injured.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
