Police said two teens who attempted to rob a man with no money at gunpoint were arrested after they fled and ran to the nearby house of one of the teens.

Officers responding to the 911 call reporting the incident went to the home on Rutland Road in Hempstead, recovered a loaded handgun and arrested the two teens, ages 16 and 17, police said.

The incident occurred Thursday at 10 p.m. near the corner of Jerusalem Avenue and Rutland Road in Uniondale, police said. Police said Apolinario Hernandez-Palacios, 17, of Terrace Avenue in Hempstead, and Lourdes Parada, 16, of Rutland Road, Hempstead, approached the 23-year-old victim, displayed a black handgun and demanded he turn over some cash.

But the man told the teens he had no money, police said.

The two teens fled to Parada's home, where police found them.

Both Hernandez-Palacios and Parada were charged with first-degree attempted robbery, second-degree attempted robbery, second-degree criminal use of a firearm and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said. They were scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
