Police track down suspect from video
A burglar who broke into a jewelry store and adjacent store in Westbury was arrested Wednesday after investigators recognized him on surveillance video, police said .
Thomas Russo of Evelyn Road, Mineola, was arrested outside his home and charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of second-degree criminal mischief for the thefts on Sept. 22 at the Jewelry Exchange and Bowery Lighting on Old Country Road in Westbury.
Nassau County police said the break-ins took place at 2:30 a.m. and were reported in a 911 call. Police said responding officers found a broken front window, but no one inside.
Jewelry was taken in that theft. At 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 22, the owner of Bowery Lighting, next to the Jewelry Exchange, called police to report a laptop computer and Breitling wristwatch had been stolen. Police found a hole through the outside wall.
Police said investigators recognized Russo from surveillance video taken at the scene.
Russo is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court, Hempstead.
