A tractor trailer delivering custom cars to a Massapequa Porsche dealer smacked into an overpass on the Wantagh Parkway Monday morning, causing significant damage to the rig, state police said.

Two Porsches and a Gumpert were being delivered by Evolution Motorsports of Tempe, Ariz., to Legend Autorama in Massapequa for a high-performance show, a spokesman for the Porsche dealer said.

The tractor trailer was driving southbound on the Wantagh Parkway when it struck the overpass for Newbridge Road between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., Trooper Frank Bandiero of the State Police said. There were no injuries and no damage to the overpass, he said.

A spokesman for the Porsche dealer said the cars were going to be showcased at a high-performance show on Monday. One Porsche sustained damage.

Bandiero said the driver likely was following computer-generated instructions or a GPS navigation system and was not aware he was not supposed to be on a New York State parkway, which prohibits commercial vehicles because of low vertical clearances on bridges and overpasses.

"We tell people all the time they can't rely solely on those types of instructions," Bandiero said. "They have to know the roads they are driving on, especially at night."

One of the Porsche sustained damage.
