Police: Truck driver struck VW, cop cruiser
A Hicksville man lost control of his Isuzu truck and struck a Volkswagen and a Nassau police cruiser in Mineola, police said Sunday.
Police arrested Jorge E. Urias, 24, of Gardiners Avenue, after his Isuzu struck the Volkswagen Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Roslyn Road and Westbury Avenue. As the Volkswagen spun onto a front lawn, Urias continued driving north until he hit the driver's-side door of a Nassau police car.
Urias, who was carrying a gravity knife, was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon and "multiple" traffic violations, Nassau police said. He was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
The police officer in the squad car and the Volkswagen's driver were treated and released from local hospitals.
