Police: Uniondale tenant assaulted female neighbor

The tenant of a first-floor apartment in Uniondale is under arrest Monday after he kicked in the door of a second-floor tenant Sunday, then assaulted her, police said.

Nassau County police said the incident is believed to have followed a prior dispute, but the nature of that incident was not immediately clear Monday. The incident took place at 11:30 p.m. on California Avenue.

Police said it was then that Edward L. White, 46, "kicked in the door" of the 52-year-old second-floor tenant's apartment, knocked her to the ground - and punched her in the face.

Officers responded to the scene and said they arrested White without incident.

The victim suffered pain to her back and jaw, police said, but refused medical aid.

White was charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court, Hempstead, police said.
