A gunman forced a Walgreens employee to unlock a safe, demanding cash Saturday morning in Westbury, Nassau County police said.

Officers responded to the drugstore, at 15 Old Country Rd., after the robbery, which occurred at 6:45 a.m. when the employee had arrived to open the store. Police said the bandit approached the female employee, 53, with a black handgun, commanding her to open the door and disable the alarm system. Once inside, the gunman told the employee to open the safe. He fled the store with an unknown amount of money, authorities said.

Police said no injuries were reported.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
