A Long Beach man was arrested after police said he held a woman against her will after a burglary Tuesday.

They said the woman was able to escape from the house and called 911.

The burglary occurred at a home in Atlantic Beach at about 4:40 p.m., Nassau County police said. During the burglary, police said the resident, 67, returned home, and the alleged burglar, identified as Walter Fryer, 35, of East Pine Street, Long Beach, attempted to hold her.

But the woman escaped, running to her car and calling police, police said.

Fryer was arrested in the home, police said.

He was charged with second-degree burglary and is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
