A woman was struck and killed by car as she attempted to cross a street in Hempstead early Saturday, Nassau County police said.

Karen Diaz, 41, was attempting cross Clinton Street, north of Lincoln Boulevard, at 12:49 a.m. when she was hit by a vehicle heading northbound driven by a 46-year-old man, police said. Police said Diaz had "no known address."

Diaz suffered multiple trauma injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where she died a short time later, police said.

The crash is not considered criminal. The vehicle was impounded at the scene for brake and safety checks and, police said, the investigation is continuing.
