A Levittown woman faces assault and obstruction charges after she pushed a police officer responding to a domestic disturbance down the stairs, Nassau County police said Monday.

Veronica R. Berk, 31, of 17 Grace Lane, was being escorted from an East Rockaway residence on Third Avenue about 11 p.m. Sunday when she pushed the officer, police said in a news release.

The officer, who was at the top of the stairway when pushed, suffered injuries to his left leg and abdominal area. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

Berk is charged with second-degree assault and second-degree obstructing government administration. She was released after arraignment Monday and required to report regularly to probation. Also, an order of protection was issued against her.

Berk could not be reached for comment Monday afternoon.
