Police: Woman robbed at gunpoint in Baldwin
A stunned car passenger who asked an intruder why he had a gun learned the answer moments later -- when the suspect stole his friend's cellphone and wallet and ran off, police said.
The armed robbery took place early Tuesday on a street in Baldwin, Nassau County police said. Police said neither the robbery victim, nor her male passenger, was injured.
But now police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
Police said the robbery took place at 3:07 a.m. near the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue and Spruce Street. The woman, 20, was dropping off the man, 20, when police said the suspect approached the car from the rear driver's side.
The suspect, wearing dark pants and a dark, hooded shirt with a yellow symbol on the front, had his face covered by a mask, police said. Police said the suspect reached into the car, grabbed the woman by the hair, pushed her head down -- and told her "not to move."
The male passenger then "asked the suspect why he had a gun out," police said.
The suspect then robbed the woman -- and fled.
