A West Massapequa woman working as a medical assistant was arrested Wednesday for allegedly bilking about $12,000 in insurance checks from two North Merrick doctors last year, Nassau County's Crimes Against Property Squad said.

From October to December, Barbara Bein-Aime, 23, of 36 Ford Dr., stole about $12,000 in insurance checks from Drs. John and Judith Marks, police said.

Bein-Aime was working for the doctors, according to police, and deposited about 20 checks into her personal checking account.

She is charged with grand larceny and forgery and was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
