Police: Woman used fake $100s at Home Depot

Officers responding Tuesday evening to a reported theft at a Home Depot in Syosset arrested the suspected shoplifter and a Hempstead woman -- who police said just happened to be in the store attempting to return power tools purchased using counterfeit $100 bills.

Jamese Lakea Williams, 28, of 30 Linden Place, was arrested on 14 counts of first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, as well as petty larceny charges.

Nassau County police said Second Precinct officers had gone to the Home Depot on Jericho Turnpike in Syosset at about 6:40 p.m. to make a larceny arrest after store security stopped a suspected shoplifter. While handling that call, police said the store manager informed the officers that Williams was attempting to return power tools purchased earlier at a Home Depot in Jericho -- and that cops said had been purchased using counterfeit $100 bills.

Police said the items -- a Milwaukee rotary hammer and a Bosch router -- had a value of more than $900. An investigation found Williams was in possession of four additional counterfeit $100 bills, police said.

Williams is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

The identity of the shoplifting suspect and any charges were not immediately available.
