A pool company worker was hospitalized Tuesday in Plainview when 20 gallons of chlorine spilled and the chemical splashed the employee in the face, according to Nassau County Chief Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro.

The spill occurred in a support structure for a pool at the Country Pointe Plainview 55 and older community on Old Country Road at 3:15 p.m., Uttaro said.

The Plainview Fire Department responded to a 911 call for an accidental chlorine spill involving an pool company worker, he said.

The worker was treated at the scene and taken by Nassau County Police Department ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center in stable condition for evaluation, Uttaro said. There were no other injuries to first responders or civilians.

The situation was under control within 60 minutes.
