Alternate-side parking in a Port Washington neighborhood and taking over the Roslyn Country Club are on the agenda for North Hempstead's Town Board meeting Tuesday.

Upset over unruly commuter parking behavior, several residents near the Port Washington Long Island Rail Road station have approached the board about imposing parking restrictions.

The board is scheduled to hold a public hearing on a measure that would prohibit weekday parking on Jeannette and Annette drives and Linda and Evelyn roads. The restrictions would apply to one side of each street between 10:30 a.m. and noon, and to the other side of each street from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Nearly 2,400 riders board trains each weekday morning at the station in a neighborhood with just more than 900 designated parking spots. Many surrounding streets have parking restrictions.

"It's probably the last residential area in Port Washington that doesn't have some type of restriction," said Councilman Fred Pollack.

At the meeting, the board also plans to continue a hearing about the town's desire to take by eminent domain the 10-acre Roslyn Country Club, which includes a tennis and pool facility as well as a catering operation.

"What we'd like to do is make sure we answer everyone's questions," Councilman Thomas K. Dwyer said.

The Roslyn Heights club is in the heart of a 668-home Levitt & Sons Inc. development. The town hopes to take the property, make improvements and open it as a membership park for residents, who would pay annual fees.

The estimated cost to buy the property and do renovations is $6 million to $10 million, the town said.

Tuesday's meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall.
