Pot bust turns to felony after suspect attacks cops
A Queens Village man arrested in connection with misdemeanor marijuana possession in New Hyde Park had the charges jacked up to a felony after kicking one arresting officer and repeatedly biting another, Nassau County police said.
Police responded to a report of a dispute on Baxter Avenue about 12:29 p.m. Sunday and arrested Arturo Salazar, 21, in connection with unlawful possession of marijuana because 15 small bags of marijuana were on the front seat, police said.
After being arrested, he "became violent and combative . . . and then kicked one officer while biting another numerous times on the hands and elbow," a police statement said.
The officer who was bitten was treated at a hospital and released.
Salazar was booked for felony second-degree assault and other charges, police said.
