Power to Long Beach City Hall, knocked out most of Monday after a transformer failure, was scheduled to be restored by 9 p.m. Monday night, a PSEG Long Island spokesperson said.

The 1:58 a.m. failure of an underground transformer cut power to City Hall, courts and the Long Beach Long Island Rail Road station. Power at the LIRR station was restored at 5:30 a.m.

The Long Beach Police Department, which operates at City Hall, during much of the morning only answered emergency calls, a city spokesman said.

A PSEG spokesperson said in an email late Monday afternoon that utility crews were working "as quickly as possible to replace the transformer," but did not answer questions about the cause of the failure or the location of the transformer.
