Prison inmate arrested in 3 LI burglaries
A man now serving time in state prison was arrested Thursday and charged with three burglaries a year ago in Hempstead and Freeport, Nassau police said Sunday.
Police said Gregory Schroeder, 41, is a suspect in burglaries of a home, a store and an office.
Police said on June 24,2011, he is suspected of prying open a window screen of a home on McDonald Street in Hempstead. He fled after he was confronted by a resident.
Schroeder is also suspected in a burglary three days later at the Holy Redeemer Thrift Store, at 23 W. Merrick Rd., in Freeport. A door of the store was pried open and cash was taken, police said.
On July 4, 2011, cash and electronics were missing after a burglary at the Kennedy Memorial Park in Hempstead, police said. The burglary walked through an open door in that case, police said.
Police said DNA evidence left at each of the three scenes was connected to Schroeder. He is serving time in the Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill on unrelated charges.
Schroeder is charged with one count of second-degree burglary and two counts of third-degree burglary. He was arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
