PSEG to begin strengthening electric circuits in eastern Nassau

PSEG this month is beginning several months of projects strengthening electric circuits in unincorporated parts of the Town of Oyster Bay, Glen Cove and several villages in Oyster Bay.

The work is designed to improve reliability, the utility said in a news release. Workers will replace existing wire with more weather-resistant wire, install more durable poles and upgrade switching equipment to reduce the number of people affected by outages.

One project, which will take about four months, is along 5 ½ miles of an electric main line circuit in the Town of Oyster Bay, the city of Glen Cove and the villages of Locust Valley and Lattingtown.

Another project, set to last about five months, is along 3 ½ miles of an electric main line circuit in the Town of Oyster Bay and in the villages of Lattingtown, Mill Neck and Bayville.

There likely will be short, deliberate power outages related to the projects. PSEG says it will notify customers in advance of any planned outages.

The projects are funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Assistance Program, PSEG said.
