A man who stopped his car Wednesday on a Freeport street to use his cellphone was robbed at gunpoint and had his car stolen, Nassau County police said.

Freeport police arrested Kyle Legere, 19, and Shaqueil Reese, 18, both of Freeport, on robbery charges after they allegedly took an undisclosed amount of cash from the driver and then drove off with his car.

The man pulled his 1993 Saturn to the curb near North Columbus and East Seaman avenues at 12:04 a.m. to make a call from his cellphone, police said.

Reese, of 151 Harris Ave., then appeared at the driver's side window with a handgun while Legere, of 2A Oak St., slid into the front passenger seat and demanded money, police said.

As the driver gave up his cash, Reese went to the backseat and ordered him out of the car.

Reese and Legere then drove off with the vehicle, police said.

Freeport police later saw the two driving the car and arrested them at Harris and North Columbus avenues, according to a news release.

The driver was not injured, police said.

Reese is charged with robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of marijuana; Legere is charged with robbery. Each is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
